And just like that rugby is back and another season commences. Away to Ormskirk with a new team, this was always going to be a challenging start to our campaign.Early signs were positive and we showed good patience and control to get out of our 22 on several occasions, before we worked our way up the pitch for a couple well worked tries. Ormskirk stayed in the fight though and pulled the score back, as we took a narrow lead into the half time break. Unfortunately the second half immediately descended into a chaotic affair, with a scuffle that led up to a red card, swiftly followed by a desperate yellow whilst we were still reeling from the turn of events. In seasons past, we would probably have folded in these conditions, but all credit to the lads they stuck at it after conceding twice in a short span, and even managed to retake the lead.Ultimately a narrow miss from a late penalty could have secured us the win, but it wasn’t meant to be. We showed a lot of promise in parts and I was pleased with the overall effort, but we need to be more disciplined when things go against us. I look forward to seeing how we perform when the team gels & we’re firing on a cylinders!
